Specializing in Children's;
Children's Illustrated, and Caldecott and Newbery Medal and Honor Books
On May 10, 2005 our beloved friend Elizabeth Orton Jones of Mason New Hampshire, passed away. She was a month shy of
her 95th birthday, but in spirit she was still a child! "Twig" as she was affectionately known, was a gifted author and illustrator. She started with
Ragman of Paris and his Ragamuffins in 1937. She won a Caldecott Honor in 1944 for her children's book Small Rain, and in 1945, was the
winner of a Caldecott Medal for her illustrations in Rachel Field's Prayer for a Child.
One of her most popular books is her Little Golden Book edition of the Grimms tale, Little Red Riding Hood in 1948. Twig used an herb farm and restaurant called Pickety Place in Mason NH
as the model for Grandmother's House in the book. She used her own house in Mason as the model for her mother's house. It has become very popular among
folks in New Hampshire, but is enjoyed by many all over the world.
We feel honored to have known Twig and to call her our friend. We miss her terribly, but she will live on forever, in spirit.
